A very striking sculpture, defined by the simplicity of form and sweeping lines with the crisp contrast between the black and white surfaces.
When spring stone comes out of the ground, it’s a matt pale grey colour. Where Isaac has sanded it and heated the stone and applied clear wax, it comes up shiny black. By contrast, where he has stroked it with a rasp, the tiny striations make the surface look matt white. To confirm, this sculpture is made from a single piece of stone, and the different colours come from Isaac’s different finishing techniques.
Spring stone is the local name for this particular type of serpentine stone. It’s very popular with Zimbabwean sculptors, mainly because it has a uniform internal texture of tiny grains and is nice and hard. It’s impermeable and is therefore suitable for outdoor display, even in temperate climates.

You will need a clearing agent to do customs clearance for you, and to arrange onward haulage to your delivery address. This isn’t as complicated as it might sound, and using an agent is definitely better than trying to do it yourself.
